Know Thyself

Thousands of years ago, these words were inscribed inside of the Temple of Luxor in Khemet, now known as Egypt. “Know thyself” was an ancient Egyptian precept that was the invitation for every initiate into the mystery schools.

As an answer to the endless seeking through the question “who am I?”, “know thyself” was the guidance to discover the sacred from within the human vessel.

Know thyself was the invitation for self realization.

These words were appropriated by Socrates in ancient Greece, and were inscribed at the Temple of Apollo in Delphi, believed to have been channeled by the Pythia, the High Dragon Priestess who served as an Oracle for Mother Earth.

In the ancient Greek world, know thyself was the entire basis of philosophy (philosophia in Greek) which came from the Goddess of wisdom, Sophia, the feminine face of God, the Feminine Christ.

In Her story, Sophia descends to the great abyss of dark matter, and through Her disconnection from the light of Heaven She births our planet out of the blackness, and embodies this matter as Gaia, the living soul of Mother Earth.

But through patriarchy, Sophia became divided into the Heavenly Sophia and the Earthly Sophia.

Body and soul, spiritual and material, Heaven and Earth, became separate from one another. The body became a lesser than evil on the road to God.

Heaven became a place “out there” that we needed to repent in order to one day gain access to entry. Humanity discovered a void within ourselves, endlessly searching for “The One” to satisfy the ache.

Many of us have arrived to a time in our personal living mythology, when we are now standing at the doorway into the ancient mystery of our very own body and soul.

Many of us are now remembering, that “The One” and “the savior” are in fact hidden within the proverb know thyself.

In the spirit of the ancient mystery school traditions, Whole Woman Mystery School is a path for this self discovery, self gnosis, and self realization, through the many facets, expressions, and fragments of the Feminine as Nature within you.

Whole Woman Mystery School is a path for reunifying the separation of Gaia and Sophia, and remembering our bodies as the very temple of Goddess Herself.

This is the secret our Priestess ancestors have been guarding and protecting for thousands of years, until someone within the lineage was ready to to remember once again.

A woman’s path of feminine power

When Sophia descends to the void, it is there that She discovers Her creative capacity to birth life. It is there, down in the darkness, that She discovers Her power.

In ancient India, power has long been known as Shakti. As the feminine principle, Shakti is all that exists. Shakti is not only the matter of our bodies and of our planet, but also the pulse of life that animates all form.

Shakti is One, and yet Her expressions are endless.

She is the waxing and waning light of the moon. The ripe fruit that bears heavy on branches and rots upon the ground. The crashing ocean waves and the flow of the river.

She is birth, She is life, She is death.
She is creation and destruction.
She is nectar and She is blood.

She is the body and the soul of Nature.

And yet, for thousands of years we have learned that some parts of Her total whole expression are distasteful, demonic, sinful, and separate from God.

We have learned to fragment, hide, reject, reform, and refuse essential aspects of our own nature and to divorce ourselves from our wholeness in order to marry the patriarchy.

By consequence, we have denied ourselves our own power.

Contrary to what our cultural and religious doctrines have imposed upon humanity, true power is holy. True power is nature. True power is life.

And this power is inherently feminine, for it is from the void, the Earth, and the womb of a woman, that all of life begins and ends.

A woman’s path of feminine power, is a journey of re-membering Shakti, Goddess, Nature, through every facet, feeling, emotion, expression, desire, and intuition that a woman already knows, but may have learned to deny herself through the ages.

As she meets with every face of the feminine nature within her own self, including and particularly the faces that initially appear foreign, she becomes whole again. It is this very wholeness that reawakens her access to the Source of power within her: Life.

Eventually, she comes to realize that her own power, life, all facets of herself, is the very medicine that heals not only herself, but a wounded world.

She remembers that she is and has always been the Holy Grail.

This is our journey in Whole Woman Mystery School, as we apprentice ourselves to nine faces of the feminine nature that reunify Body and Soul, Gaia and Sophia, and we reclaim every facet of ourselves as the power of Life.

We all have spaces inside of us where the feminine doesn’t feel safe or welcome.

There are territories of the feminine that we trust, and there are territories that we vehemently distrust and reject. They are unique and specific and nuanced for each of us.

And yet, if we are to truly live as the fullness we were born for, we must reclaim each and every facet of our whole feminine power.

Reclaiming true feminine power is a journey of re-sourcing and re-membering ourselves to that which we have unconsciously separated ourselves from across the ages. It is a journey of choosing to access within ourselves what we may believe to be inaccessible, inappropriate, or even unsafe.

It is a journey of unconditionally embodying the parts of ourselves that we have learned to disassociate from and deny.

As we choose to apprentice ourselves to the myriad facets of Creation that are right here within our own female bodies, we discover our own doorways and our own guides that bring us home to the truest treasure within us, which is our own exquisite Holy Grail.

Your power is the Holy Grail within you.
You are the Holy Grail.

With this recognition of your inherent sacredness, you arrive to the places you once demonized and denied with true reverence and devotion.

You become nourished by the golden cup of your nature. Truly fed for the first time, you birth a fuller expression of yourself into the world. In the fullness of your authenticity, you re-member yourself as the wellspring that regenerates even the most desolate of wastelands into Heaven on Earth.

You re-become the living reminder of what our world has forgotten: everything you are is sacred and whole.

This is the hidden key, and the journey of Whole Woman.

The greatest fear you will ever face as a woman is your power.

If you’ve ever felt afraid of the immensity of power inside of you, you’re in good company. All women (to various degrees) fear this Source of Creation inside of ourselves.

The obvious reason…

For thousands of years, women have been burned for embodying feminine power.

In patriarchal culture to various degrees we’ve all learned to distrust the many ways our power manifests…

Desire, eroticism, sexual expression, wild emotion, menstruation, birth, motherhood, menopause, oracular intuition, and all that animates through us as Life.

But there’s also a deeply sacred reason we fear it…

Feminine power by nature is initiatory.

The Holy Grail, the mystery of everlasting life through rebirth, the wisdom of your body, soul, heart and womb, does not grant instant access.

Instead, She sends you on a quest to discover the true nature of your power, to come into right relationship with it for the well being of the world.

This happens not one time, but many times as we’re ripened through Maidenhood, Motherhood, & Wise Womanhood.

But in a culture that’s robbed women of our innate embodied rites of passage, most of us have no idea what we’re doing when the initiations come.

So instead… we hide, we turn away, we feel shame, and we allow ourselves to be victims of what is actually here to expand us into more than we’ve ever been.

The truth is…

This power lives inside of us whether we’re conscious of it or not. Denying it makes us victims of it, or at the very least limits our access to the depths of fulfillment we know is possible in this lifetime.

When we choose to claim it again, we re-align ourselves with the very forces of Nature that flow through everything in existence. Aligning with this power bestows us with the very forces that will change our world.

Women fear feminine power because we’ve been taught to fear our power AND we were robbed our ancient rites of passage.

Your body is the blueprint for all of creation and contains the mysteries of life, death, and rebirth. All shamanic cultures across the world understood this, and our great womb religions worshipped a woman’s body as the Goddess herself.

In truth, your body is the holy vessel of your soul, just as the Earth is the Eden where Heaven resides. So why then, has this body become the greatest source of shame and the Earth been desecrated by humanity?

The Tree of Knowledge in the Garden of Eden is a symbol for the Canaanite Goddess Asherah, one of the most predominant ancient fertility Goddesses predating Judaism worshipped by the indigenous people of Palestine. Asherah was a fertility goddess of both sex magic and nurturing love. With Asherah we return to the places in our bodies that carry the most collective shame, violation, and demonization, and we re-sanctify that which has always been holy.

Artemis, the Greek Virgin Goddess of the moon, the iconic wild woman, is the true definition of virgin, a woman whole unto herself. But Artemis herself is captured by Hercules and in the process she experiences a fall from grace. With Artemis we lift the veils of “false belonging” through entrapments of our conditioning, as we unhook ourselves from co-depency and rediscover our own authentic “wild belonging.”

A guardian of the depths of the oceanic underworld, Sedna's wounds inflicted by her own father birth the whales and creatures that become sustenance and food that ensure the lives of others. Together we journey with the polarities of woman, recognizing what we reject and project in the reflection of sister, to access a fuller range of ourselves, and in turn appreciate a wider spectrum of womanhood.

What lives at the roots of our judgements, jealousy, and codependency in relationships with other women? As we approach The Sister together, we do so through the understanding of our collective trauma surrounding the feminine that causes us to project and deflect our own nature in other women. We look to the witch trials, patriarchal white supremacy, and the many ways women have been cast against once another to survive. We arrive with curiosity surrounding the sister wound as a doorway into the wound with Goddess Herself.

Many of us have learned the lie that there is the “good girl” and the “bad girl”, the “virgin” and the “whore", and that we must choose which category we fit into within our society. This division, which causes us to fragment ourselves and judge our sisters, originates with the first women in the Old Testament: Lilith & Eve. With Lilith and Eve as our guides, we journey with the dual nature of woman through the archetypes of the virgin and the whore, uniting these necessary aspects of life within us all.

Every woman has a light side and a dark side. Yet, we may have learned to reject one and exalt the other, within ourselves and within other women. In truth, we all need full access to the “negative” and to the “positive” in order to be whole. The reunion of the light and dark feminine has been iconically illustrated through the story of Inanna’s Descent to the Underworld to see her twin Ereshkigal. With Inanna and Ereshkigal as our guides, we explore the dark side and the light side of ourselves to bring our own fragments and all of our sister relationships into the mirror of reunion and reconciliation.

What changes when the sisterhood is no longer a place of comparison, and instead becomes a sanctuary to worship the feminine, to worship Goddess through the celebration of one another? There is perhaps no greater role model and muse for what it means to love a woman and to worship her in all of her expressions and her forms as Goddess, than the Greek poetess Sappho, as famous as Homer before her many works were burned and destroyed. We reawaken Sappho together as a beautiful and joyful remembrance of our right to celebrate the feminine within ourselves and within one another as the living Goddess Herself.

The awakening of sexuality can often feel like a return to the roots of our wounding. Indeed, it is through our sexuality that we reunite with the genetic codes of Mother and Father, as they created our body through their DNA and their merging of sex with one another. Created as a deity within the Bhakti movement in 8th century India, Radha is an icon for cultivating a direct personal intimate relationship with the divine. Paradoxically, this profound devotion and union that Radha invites us into begins with the feeling of unrequited and unfulfilled love. With Radha as our guide we open into the vastness that resides beneath the surface tendencies of hunger or desperation for love, and open all the way into the ache of the separation from God. Radha is the doorway to realizing yearning as a devotional path to the true One, a love that never leaves, our Source.

As perhaps the most famous and celebrated lover of all time, Aphrodite represents the beauty, the radiance, the sensuality, the allure, the magnetism, and above all else the unshakeable self worth that a woman can embody in relationship once she has married all parts of herself as sacred and holy within herself. With Aphrodite as our guide, we experience true sacred union as the homecoming of all parts of ourselves into an erotic inner awakening, and we step into her maturity as we rise in love.

One of the greatest traps inherited by women, is the belief that there is only one way to be a “good” mother. In truth, The Mother is wildly multidimensional, and needs access to her wholeness in order to best support her young ,and to nourish herself to give from abundance. In the Hindu pantheon, Durga was The Fierce Mother called upon when the world had been overtaken by demons. Out of Durga’s third eye came Kali Ma, The Mother of greatest ferocity and also deepest compassionate love. With Durga Ma as our guide we reclaim our rage as a vital and healthy aspect of our mothering, as the lioness who is not afraid to roar. Durga commands us to be unwavering in our devotion to that which really matters, and to be willing to destroy that which threatens the health and well being of our precious creations and lives.

However her deepest magic is indeed her priestess power to bring the dead back to life. At times The Priestess’ power is cosmic, magical, and elemental. Baba Yaga is the old Slavic hag who lives in the forest and is believed to eat young maidens who knock upon her door. She is the one who gives the maiden the impossible tasks that deepen her intuition, and eventually bestow her with the sacred flame of her own inner truth. While she may appear to be the “villain” she is in fact the initiatrix, guiding us into our power through testing and challenging us so that we too become wise. With Baba Yaga we reclaim The Wild Woman within through choosing to enter our own dark forest and receive the initiations that make us truly wise.

Crossing the Threshold

As the ancient crone goddess of Greek mythos, Hecate guards the thresholds where we meet deeper layers of our power as we ripen and mature. Hecate was the one who accompanied Persephone, the maiden, down to the underworld each autumn, to midwife her through rebirth. With Hecate we meet with our fears of change, uncertainty, the unknown, and learn to be resilient in the face of our own thresholds of life and death. We learn to trust our eyesight in the darkness and our clairvoyance as oracles to guide our way. We reclaim our full intuition as the light of truth within.

Disappointment as Medicine

What if disappointment was not a sign that we had been punished, rejected, or abandoned by the divine, but was the Dark Goddess appearing on our path to invite us into a vaster knowing of liberation? In Hindu mythology Dhumavati is the Goddess of disappointment and misfortune, the opposite of Lakshmi in The Queen. She is the only Goddess with no consort, no lover, only herself, her rags, and her black crow. Dhumavati is the spinster. With Dhumavati we awaken through our fears of our nectars running dry, of losing our external luster, of no longer being fertile and sweet. We allow the medicine of disappointment to be our doorway to freedom, as we meet the truth within that will never be validated by anything without. There we discover a whole new dimension of feminine power.

For our ancestors who lived by the rise and the set of the sun, the movements of the stars and the shapes of the moon, by the seasons of the Earth and the cycles of the crops, everything was believed to have a soul. Born Again

Something miraculous occurs on the other side of death. As we see with the life cycles of all living things, death gives way to new life. As we see through the beginning and ending of the day, and the cycles of the moon, all of nature knows inherently how to Rebirth. In Welsh mythology, the Goddess Arianrhod is the silver moonlight who births out of the darkest night sky. She is the physical wombifestation of immortality through her return to the light through the darkness. With Arianrhod we trace the cycles of our own soul path, allowing ourselves to be born again in a new cycle, as we continue to heal on this spiral path of life.

Sacred Flame

As the essence of our being, the spark of divinity within, The Soul is the sacred flame inside of us, and we are her benevolent guardian. It is only when we dishonor our own soul that our inner light begins to diminish. In Pre-Christian Ireland the Goddess Brigid was the keeper of this sacred flame. She was (and is) the Goddess of inspiration, believed to have appeared in the sky just before the rising sun with flames blazing from the crown of her head. Brigid is the light of fire that brings warmth to the Earth within the darkness and cold of winter. With Brigid we return to our inner hearth and reclaim ourselves as the keepers of this sacred flame.

Just as we began our journey in The Body with Gaia, we complete our journey together in The Soul with Sophia, the feminine principle of all of creation. Hi beautiful sister, I’m Camille. Founder of Earth Daughters and Creatrix of Whole Woman Mystery School.

Lover of the wild nature, devoted to bringing Feminine power back into the world beginning with creating safe, sacred spaces for women to reawaken Feminine power in themselves.

My own path of feminine power has been winding, challenging, humbling, and in moments devastating…

it’s also been rich with with magic, beauty, mystery, and deeper love than I ever imagined possible.

After 13 years of being relentlessly initiated by the Wild Feminine, I’ve come to learn and ultimately trust the nature of feminine power itself.

While fear is absolutely part of the equation, it can be what drives us forward, instead of what holds us back.

Since 2012 I’ve boldly shared my voice on behalf of Gaia, answering the call of my soul. At just 25 years old I sold everything, moved to the jungle of Costa Rica, traveled in over 25 countries alone, and wrote a blog This American Girl read by millions of people all over the world.

I studied every esoteric spiritual system under the moon, and in 2015 I started guiding women’s rewilding retreats, the beginning of my remembrance of my ancient path as a priestess.

In 2018 I experienced a catastrophic dark night of the womb that shattered my world, and caused me to leave my home in Costa Rica, end the blog, and step deep into the unknown.

On that path, I was required to face every fear of Goddess inside of myself - through debilitating ptsd, unfathomable spiritual awakening, and a fierce devotion to remember who we were before patriarchal trauma.

One night as I looked out across a lake surrounded by volcanoes, I had a vision of faces of the Goddess shapeshifting in the sky as the waxing waning moon. In that moment I received the message, that I was here to birth a women’s mystery school and dedicate my life to the Feminine.

These faces of the Goddess eventually came to me as 9 archetypes that span our development as women - The Body, The Daughter, The Sister, The Lover, The Mother, The Queen, The Priestess, The Wise Woman, and The Soul. They initiated me again and again into their mysteries as I came to embrace their nature in myself.

In 2019 I birthed Whole Woman as a 9 week women’s immersion, and in 2021 it expanded into a 9 month apprenticeship, encompassing the fullness of this work I guide for women through every season of your nature as your power.
